Grassroots Winter Training (U07 to U12)

THPFC’s Grassroots Winter Training program is station-based training that provides a variety of drills and exercises to develop individual and team fundamentals.  Grassroots Winter Training is open to U07 to U12 players at all levels.  Players work within groups of similar age and ability to foster a challenging, fun learning environment.

Grassroots Winter Training aligns with Ontario Soccer's Long Term Player Development model and promotes a four-corner approach to player development.  Players are schooled in the technical, tactical, physical and psychological aspects of soccer.   Grassroots Winter Training sessions are developed and executed by THPFC’s technical staff, which comprises professional coaches specializing in youth development.

Winter League Soccer

Many of THPFC’s grassroot development players – U09 (2009) to U12 (2006) – play on indoor winter league teams. These players have minimum training requirements to be eligible for winter league play.

Minimum Training Requirements

If players wish to play on a winter league team, they must commit to a minimum of two club-offered training sessions per week, one of which must be grassroots winter training.  Only players who attend two such sessions per week are eligible to participate on an indoor winter league team, with one notable exception as follows.  Players participating in a second competitive winter sport may attend only one grassroots winter training session each week, and be eligible for indoor winter league play.  Such two sport athletes are required to provide details of their second sport to their director of coaching.  Once their other sport season is complete, they are expected to attend as many training sessions as possible.
