2017 U06 (2011) Pre-Competitive Program Overview
What is the Junior Development Program?
The Junior Development Program (JDP) is a development program offered to U06-U08 players in a fun,yet structured environment that emphasizes ball mastery and individual technical skills in order to build a strong foundation for life-long soccer activity.
Our U06 JDP Program is led by our U06-U08 Director of Coaching (DOC) Ian Sinclair. He is supported by a highly-qualified and knowledgeable coaching staff.
Ian’s coaching career spans over 15 years, in particular playing an important role in helping nurture and develop players at the grassroots level. His experience includes; technical director of grassroots and special programs at Oakville Soccer Club, junior academy director at Oakville Soccer Club, rep competitive coach Girls U13-U17 and assistant men’s coach with McMaster University. His significant background working with athletes and coaches provides us with the ability to further develop our young players providing them with tools necessary to grow and enhance their skill set.

The U06 JDP program runs alongside the Timbits program and is not a replacement for it. Players participating in the U06 Timbits who would like to get started with a solid foundation of soccer skills with a professional coach are encouraged to sign up. The program is designed to specifically focus on technical skill development (ball mastery) in a challenging and fun environment. It is in keeping with THPFC’s philosophy that in order for a player to keep improving and reach his/her potential they need to focus on this type of training. A player needs to be comfortable to play a ball with all parts of both feet and confident when making decisions. This will translate into more confidence with the ball and being better prepared for the competitive programs as they mature and progress through the various development stages.
The JDP program runs throughout the summer.
Our training curriculum is aligned with Canadian Soccer Association’s (CSA) Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) initiative, where the focus is on skill development and having fun.
- We follow age appropriate soccer activities that are appropriate to this age group.
- These activities promote a feel for the ball while teaching basic principles of play within a FUN but structured setting.
- There will be themed technical topic each week that is led by the DOC for the age group and technical support staff.
- All sessions will run one hour and consist of ball mastery work and small sided game situations (2v2, 3v3 or 4v4) allowing for more touches on the ball.
The U06 Program consists of:
1 60 minute Session Per Week from May to September on Fridays between 6-8pm (location TBD)
2 week blackout period late July and Early August
